Anne Kohler

Anne Kohler studied school music in Hamburg, and conducting, piano and singing in Karlsruhe.

She has also attended master classes with Eric Ericsson, Frieder Bernius, Volker Hempfling and Tonu Kaljuste. Workshops with Sweden’s RealGroup, Jens Johansen of “vocal line”, and Thierry Lalo, and her close cooperation with the arrangers Martin Carbow and Oliver Gies, have been a major influence on her work with the jazz choir.

Prof. Kohler has also directed national courses and workshops on conducting, vocal training, and jazz choirs, and served as a competition judge.

From 1996 to 2009 she lectured in choral conducting and singing at Musikhochschule Hannover. Here, she founded the jazz choir Vivid Voices, which won first prize in the jazz category of the 2002 Deutscher Chorwettbewerb.

She has been professor of choral conducting at Hochschule für Musik Detmold since April 2009, directing HfM’s chamber choir, which has won many international awards, and founding the vocal ensemble Pop-Up.
