Prizewinner CD

More than half a year ago, the Romanian pianist Adela Liculescu (25) was one of two to win 1st prize in the Brahms Piano Competition Detmold. This competition was held for the first time by the Detmold University of Music in cooperation with the Julius Blüthner Pianoforte Factory and the Alfred Reinhold Foundation. In addition to prize money and numerous follow-up engagements, the Hochschule also offered the production of a CD for one of the two first-place winners. The finished product, produced by students of the Erich Thienhaus Institute under the professional direction of Prof. Bernhard Güttler, will be officially available from 25 April. On the CD, Adela Liculescu presents a varied and very personal programme. At the same time, she shows the complete range of her artistic abilities.

"I wanted to play works that are particularly close to my heart and that suit me," is how the pianist comments on the programme selection for her CD, adding: "I am especially pleased that a composition from my home country will also be heard." In addition to the Pavane from the Suite No. 2 by the Romanian George Enescu, Liculescu interprets the "Waldstein" Sonata by Ludwig van Beethoven as well as a technically highly demanding work of the piano repertoire: the Paganini Variations by Johannes Brahms. The CD also includes Franz Liszt's concerto paraphrase of Giuseppe Verdi's opera Rigoletto and the piano version of Maurice Ravel's well-known orchestral work "La Valse".

The CD by Adela Liculescu can be purchased now for 10 euros on the university's website at www.hfm-detmold.de/presseaktuelles/cd-shop/.
