Outgoing students

The Erasmus+ programme of the European Union offers students of HfM Detmold the opportunity to gain international experience by spending one or two semesters at a European partner university. Erasmus+ students do not have to pay tuition fees (with the exception of any administrative fees).

Application process:

Select an Erasmus+ partner university from the list of cooperation partners. Find out whether a course there meets your personal and professional expectations.
If you are interested in an exchange with a university that is not yet a cooperation partner, please contact the International Office.

Deadline for applications:

If you are interested, please contact the International Office by the end of January to discuss the procedure. Some universities have changed their application process and use online platforms. You generally find information on the application process and deadlines on the website of the respective partner university. Some universities accept later applications if there are any vacancies. More information can be obtained from the International Office.

Application documents (can differ at the particular partner university):

  • Erasmus+ application form
  • Learning agreement
  • Digital sound recording or video  (usually 20 minutes)
  • Letter of motivation
  • Proof of language skills for the respective country or proof of English language skills at level B1.

Application procedure:

The International Office at your home university nominates you for an Erasmus exchange. There will be a selection process at the host university of your choice. Both the applicant and the International Office will be informed about the partner university’s decision. This may take a little longer. So please be patient. If your application is accepted, further forms must be completed and you can start to organise your trip and stay. The declaration of acceptance of the financial support must be completed at the International Office. The scholarship will be paid at the beginning of your stay abroad. If additional funds are available, a second payment will be made.

Reregistration and leave of absence during semesters abroad:

During a study-related stay abroad, you are also obliged to reregister at the university. We therefore recommend to take a leave of abroad at HfM Detmold for the semester abroad.

Insurance:

Please note that the programme does not provide any insurance cover. The DAAD offers combined health, accident and personal liability insurance for students spending time abroad in connection with their studies.
More information about the insurance policies of the DAAD as well as the policy conditions can be found on the website of the DAAD.

Language course:

Licenses for an online language test and course in the language of your host country can be obtained via the International Office.
