Hans Bertels

Born in 1960 in Rheine/Westphalia, after graduating from school Hans Bertels trained as an upper secondary teacher of Catholic Theology and English. After his final university examination in 1985, he also completed administrative training with the district government in Detmold, where he worked until May 2001, with interim positions in the interior ministries of North Rhine-Westphalia and Brandenburg. He then moved to the Hochschule für Musik Detmold where he was initially employed as HR Manager and Deputy Chancellor. From 2004 to 2006, alongside his work at the university, he studied for a master’s degree in Higher Education and Research Management at the Hochschule Osnabrück and received a Master of Business Administration degree in April 2006. In addition to his work at the university, for over 15 years he has lectured on topics relating to public service law – including at the Fortbildungsakademie des Innenministeriums NRW. Effective 1 May 2007, at the proposal of the University Council, he was appointed Chancellor of the Hochschule für Musik Detmold by Minister Prof. Dr. Andreas Pinkwart.
