Reinhild Spiekermann completed her studies in piano pedagogy at the Detmold University of Music, and at its former Münster department with a national examination for music pupils and independent teachers in 1991. Her artistic training followed in 1995 in Münster in the class of Professor M Keller. While studying she began teaching scholars of all ages and experience in a freelance capacity. She was also in a long-term, permanent piano teaching position at the Höxter Jugendmusikwerk School of Music. She conceived and carried out a Liszt project from 1990; leading to exhibitions (at the Goethe National Museum, Wiemar), presentations and discussion concerts in many German cities - forming the foundation for her first research focus with Franz Liszt as her teacher. In 1993, a project about S. Rachmaninoff followed in collaboration with pianist Beate Berthold and the cultural office of Detmold. In addition, she was in 1998 the fellow of the Richard Wagner Association. On 1 February 1995, Reinhild Spiekermann took over the head of the Stadtlohn Music School (NRW) and from 1 April 1998, until taking over the professorship, she was head of the Nordhorn Music School (NS). She was particularly concerned with establishing co-operation between music schools on the Dutch and German sides.

Far across the boundaries of Bentheim County people have taken note of the EUREGIO Piano Festival, which the music school organised for 99 pianists in 1999 for children up to master classes for students. Reinhild Spiekermann has continued to broaden her range of activities as a member of the jury of the International Poulenc Competition, as well as the annual competition of the Jaap van Sweden Music School for extraordinary gifted children and youths. She is also the chairperson of the Stichting Muziekschool Denekamp.

She continued her tertiary teaching during the winter term of 1996/97 in Münster. Since 2002 she has been Professor of General Instrumental and Vocal Teaching as well as of the subject Piano Teaching/Methodology at the Detmold University of Music.

As curriculum director in the field of music pedagogy she is heavily involved in current study reforms with the aim of initiating a practice-orientated bachelor's degree for prospective

instrumental/vocal teachers. The focus is the network of courses as well as the central emphasis on the professional future.

An additional focus of her work is the project "Adults in instrumental/vocal teaching", in which, in conjunction with a student team, central questions regarding adult music education are discussed and recorded in commented sound image files (to be used in teaching). Since the beginning of October 2002, Reinhild Spiekermann has been Professor of General Instrumental/Vocal Teaching as well as of the subject Piano Teaching/Methodology at the Detmold University of Music.
