Gerhild Romberger studied at the Detmold University of Music and finished her musical training with Professor Heiner Eckels and a concert examination. Courses with Mitsuko Shirai and Hartmut Höll helped her along in her musical career. Since then, the singer herself has been made Professor of Singing at the Detmold University of Music. A focus of her work has been vocal evenings. In addition, her wide-ranging repertoire includes all the great alto and mezzo parts of oratorio and concert singing. It is of note that on top of her interpretation of the Baroque works, classical music and the Romantic period, she is also involved with contemporary music. She has participated in numerous premieres. Important performances in her earlier career took Gerhild Romberger to the Cologne Radio Orchestra (WDR) with Mozart's Requiem and Toshio Hosokawa's Voiceless Voice in Hiroshima. She was also involved with the Essen Philharmonic with Beethoven's 9th Symphony and the NDR Radio Symphony Orchestra with Wolfgang Rihm's Three Later Poems by Heiner Müller. On concert tours with Enoch zu Guttenberg she sang Verdi's Requiem and Wagner's Wesendonck Lieder. In June 2009 she was seen in Franz Schmidt's The Book with Seven Seals, led by Manfred Honeck and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.
