Tomasz Adam Nowak was born in 1962 in Warsaw. He studied at the Frédéric-Chopin University in his hometown; under Franz Lehrndorfer in München; Marie-Claire Alain in Paris and Ewald Kooiman in Amsterdam. He is the winner of numerous international organ competitions and of the Haarlem improvisation competition. He has performed in concerts and produced radio and audio recordings in Europe and abroad. The focus of his artistic career are organ pieces by J.S. Bach (which he on numerous occasions has performed completely, as well as recorded); the works of Max Regers; music of the Organ Reform Movement and the Avantgarde, as well as the art of improvisation. Novak is the Professor of Artistic Organ Playing and Improvisation at the Detmold University of Music, and the premier organist of the city and Market Church St. Lamberti in Münster. He has led master classes in Europe and the USA; has been a judge at international competitions and has collaborated with several symphony orchestras in Germany as well as overseas. He has also managed the artistic leadership of the International Organ Festival of Westfalen-Lippe.
