Detmold Hochschule für Musik

Born and raised in Gütersloh, Peter Kreutz studied piano (under Renate Kretschmar-Fischer) as well as singing (Heiner Eckels) at the Detmold University of Music in Detmold, where he received a distinction on his examination.

During his piano studies under Renate Kretschmar-Fischer, he began a long-standing and close collaboration with Helmut Kretschmar, in whose master classes for singing, Peter Kreutz met many singers who launched their international careers from Detmold. The many international prizes, among others the München (ARD) and s'Hertogenbosch (Netherlands), testify to the high standard of this work.

In 1988 Peter Kreutz won first prize in the Song Duo competition of the Federal Association of German Industry (BDI); in 1990, he received special mention as piano accompanist at the German Music Competition and he recorded in the Federal Selection's Concerts Young Artists - a tour with over 50 recitals in one season. His concert activities, among others, with mezzo soprano Birgit Remmert, has taken Peter Kreutz through many European countries and to international festivals like the Kissinger Summer and the Gustav Mahler Weeks in Italian Toblach, where he performed numerous times. A large number of his song recitals were recorded by broadcasters ARD, RAI and Dutch radio. Many TV productions were taped with ZDF and Dutch television. CDs with songs by Johannes Brahms vocal works of the 19th and 20th Century, as well as pieces by Antonin Dvorák are commercially available.

In addition to his activities as a piano teacher and head of department at the Gütersloh Music School, Peter Kreutz has for many years taught song composition at the Detmold University of Music, where he was appointed Honorary Professor in 2004.

Along with students of his Detmold song classes, Peter Kreutz founded a concert series titled Forum Lied in his hometown Gütersloh, which in the year 2009 celebrated its 10-year anniversary. It has gained a fine reputation over the years.
