Matitjahu Kellig was born in Schwäbisch Hall in 1949 and studied at the music academies in Stuttgart and Munich. His principal teachers were Professor Maria Landes-Hindemith and Hubert Giesen (song accompaniment). The instruction he received in master classes led by Géza Anda, Claudio Arrau and Tatjana Nikolajewa contributed significantly to his artistic development. He completed his studies with a concert examination in 1976.
Two years later he became Lecturer of Piano and Chamber Music at the University of Frankfurt. Apart from additional lecturing at the Frankfurt Academy of Music, and a visiting professorship in Taiwan, Matitjanhu Kellig has led many piano courses, including a course on Mozart piano sonatas in Indonesia; a Schumann Interpretation course together with Michel Béroff in Germany, as well as master classes in Malaysia; Cyprus; Vietnam; Taiwan; Argentina; Greece; Italy and Israel.
Since 1992, Matitjahu Kellig has taught piano as Professor at the Detmold University of Music. He has been Dean of Department 2 since 2007. As a soloist he has performed with the MetroManila Symphony Orchestra; the Stuttgart Philharmonic; Taipei Symphony Orchestra; Madras Chamber Orchestra; Jakarta Radio Orchestra and the Israel Kibbutz Chamber Orchestra. At orchestral concerts he also takes on the double-role of pianist as well as conductor.
Apart from piano evenings, Matitjahu Kellig is also a much sought-after chamber musician and song accompanist. In Germany, as well as abroad, Matitjahu Kellig has recorded many productions for radio and television, among others with Radio Cyprus, and with radio stations in the Philippines; Indonesia; Denmark; Israel and Hessian Radio, as well as the ZDF television network.
Since 2003 Matitjahu Kellig is the artistic leader of the Toblach/Italy Interpretation Classes.
