Eckhard Fischer was born in Stuttgart in 1959. He studied violin under Ricardo Odnoposoff at the Stuttgart Music Academy and under Joseph Gingold at the Indiana University in Bloomington (USA); chamber music under György Sebok, Leon Fleisher, the Amadeus Trio di Trieste and with the Melos Quartet. He also conducted under Alexander Sumski. In 1978 he won the S-3 Stuttgart String Quartet music prize, with which he became the winner of the Karl Klingler competition and got to play in the federal selection concerts for young artists. In 1985 he founded the piano trio TrioOpus 8, with which he won numerous awards in competitions in Berlin (Mendelssohn Competition), Colmar, Florence and Bordeaux. Since 1990, he has been Professor of Violin at the Detmold University of Music. In 1996 he took over the artistic leadership of the Tibor Varga-founded Detmold Chamber Orchestra. He stayed in this position until 2009.
