Fabio Vettraino was born in 1961 in Rome where he first studied mathematics, and then piano and conducting at the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia; where he finished his training with distinction.

He went on to do a master course in conducting under Franco Ferrara, Pierre Dervaux,

Arpad Jóo and Mosche Atzmon, whom he assisted in 1988.

In 1987, Vettraino was one of the prize winners at the International Conducting Competition in Assisi.

After many years as a soloist in Foggia, Stuttgart and Bremen, he was conductor at the Goetheplatz Theatre in Bremen from 1992 to 1996.

As pianist and conductor he performed in Germany, Hungary and in Italy at numerous festivals.

As piano accompanist of Lucia Aliberti, he performed at the Ludwigsburger Festival and at the Alte Oper in Frankfurt.

Since 2000, Fabio Vettraino has been Professor of Performance and Ensemble Studies at the Detmold University of Music.
