Jean-Efflam Bavouzet was born in Metz. He studied in his home-town and in Paris. The concert repertoire of Bavouzet includes the concerts of Bartók, Beethoven and Prokofieff. In his solo programme he often plays pieces from Boulez, Ligeti and Stockhausen. As a new project he is preparing a performance of Robert Schumann's complete works for piano. He has performed, among others, with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Berlin Symphony Orchestra. He also played for many years with the Orchestre de Paris, where he worked with Georg Solti and Pierre Boulez. In the past year, he played with the London Philharmonic Orchestra for the first time. As chamber musician, Bavouzet often performs with Zoltán Kocsis. Bavouzet's recordings have been awarded numerous times; among them the complete recordings of Ravel's works for solo piano and works by Liszt, Haydn, Schumann and Chopin. For his first recording he chose collected Etudes by Maurice Ohana. Since 1999, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet has been Professor at the Detmold University of Music.
