Detmold summer academies 2004 -2008

2004
In the first year of the Detmold summer academy (2004), Kurt Masur took over the directorship of the orchestra. An audience of more than 1200 listeners attended the final concert (the live recording of this concert, a double CD, can be obtained at a cost price of 10 EUR).

2005
In 2005 the summer academy was held in close collaboration with the Landesjugendorchester NRW (Federal Youth Orchestra NRW) - Hermann Bäumer, the GMD of the Städtische Bühnen Osnabrück (City Stages of Osnabrück) and assistant to Sir Simon Rattle in Salzburg, acted as "composing magnet".
He supported and created an enthusiasm among the youth about the city where we himself had studied in, Detmold. The summer academy began on the 28th July 2005 and ended on the 10th August 2005. The winners of the 42nd federal competition "Jugend musiziert" (youth plays music) came from the fields of piano, harp and song and were supported by the Detmold lecturers, just as the instrumentalists of the Landedsjugendorchester (Federal Youth Orchestra) were. A double CD was also recorded of this final concert. It can be ordered for 10 EUR.

2006
Following the doctrine of both successful academies in 2004 and 2005, the advancement of the gifted by the university in 2006 focused on brass instrument players, organ players and guitarists:
The above mentioned instrumentalists competed in the federal competition "Jugend musiziert" (youth plays music) and had been invited, so as to enhance their soloist, chamber musical and orchestral abilities in a professional setting. The summer academy was held from the 23rd July 2006 to the 2nd August 2006 in Detmold. Bursaries for the prize winners of the federal competition "Jugend musiziert, (youth plays music) were also granted in 2006. In addition to a close collaboration with the guitar symposium, which is held in Iserlohn at the same time, a master course for conductors of symphonic brass orchestras, under Walter Ratzek and Prof. Karl-Heinz Bloemeke, was given, as well as numerous chamber concerts; the course ended with a performance of Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana" for a large symphonic brass orchestra.

2007
In 2007 Detmold became the Mecca for highly talented string players and percussionists - who under the directorship of Maestro Christoph Poppen were formed into an unusual chamber orchestra.
The new artistic leadership, under Prof. Diemut Poppen, who works as professor for viola, decided to put more emphasis on chamber music teaching at the Detmold summer academy 2007. By playing together with other high talented youths the young musicians should have fun with the combined studies and gain important musical experience in the short time of the summer academy.

2008
The Detmold summer academy 2008 was held for the instruments piano, harp and vocal. The total of 40 "Jugend-musiziert" (youth plays music) federal prize winners who were invited from all other Germany, were taught in master courses given by the Detmold university lecturers, and were also brought together for scene lectures, ensemble studies, chamber music and concerts.
They were joined by 100 members of the "Bundesjugendorchester" (Federal Youth Orchestra), who were invited as an orchestra to the residence, to complete their summer working phase in Detmold. Under the directorship of Matthias Foremny the Bundesjugendorchester (Federal Youth Orchestra) worked on an impressive "Theatrum Bestiarum" by Glaner, as well as on Mahler's "Lied von der Erde" (Song about the earth). The splendid final concert was held in the Bielefeld Oetker Hall.
