The Detmold Centre for highly talented young musicians (DHZ)

One of the future key objectives of the Detmold College of Music is to strengthen the support of exceptionally talented young musicians. The college thus responds to suggestions made by a music committee set up by the German Land North Rhine Westphalia which analysed the future of its universities and music colleges. In their development plan of 2003, the Senate of the Detmold College of Music approved the foundation of a centre for highly talented young musicians. The government of North Rhine Westphalia also granted its permission in a common agreement. The recently founded "Detmold Centre for highly talented young musicians" (DHZ) will open its doors in the winter semester 2007/2008.
The aim of the DHZ is to offer promising young musicians all-encompassing support at a very high level as early as possible. But the DHZ is not only meant to provide intensive training in the young students' main subject but has also to respond to deficiencies through a holistic approach where private tutors or general music schools would not be able to help satisfactorily. The DHZ is eager to cooperate closely with the students' parents and their music and regular schools in order to find suitable solutions for problems at an early stage and to discuss requests for leave of absence or private tuition should the need arise.
