hfm brass – the brass ensemble of the HFM Detmold

The brass ensemble of the Detmold Academy of Music was established at the initiative of the two Detmold lecturers, Prof. David Bruchez-Lalli (trombone) and Prof. Norbert Stertz (horn) in 2006.
Nowadays, Prof. Norbert Stertz primarily works with a selection of students from the brass classes in the setting, having become famous especially through ensembles like the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble or the German Brass.

Repertoire | Reputation

hfm brass' repertoire ranges from the renaissance to pop music and jazz. Thanks to the aforementioned ensembles, there is now a plethora of arrangements and original compositions available to this cast, which is most interesting for the musicians as well as the audience.
Especially due to the multitude of tones of brass instruments, which can cover the whole spectrum from solemnly shining Baroque music to rousing big band jazz, this ensemble has a special place within the Detmold Hochschule für Musik.
Because of the multiple possibilities of use and the high demand of perfection in chamber music, it acts as ambassador for the university.
